Handy Tips for online learning!

As we launch ourselves and our students headfirst into the strange new world of total online learning, it's worth taking a moment to reflect on the impact for our collective well-being.


As we strive to create more and more online material for our students to access, are we inadvertently missing out on exploring what's already out there?




Handy Tip #1: Curate don't Create!

Spend some time each day thinking about the wide range of resources you already have to hand - how might you use them differently to create new learning activities?


You might perhaps think of utilising tools like Microsoft's FlipGrid for getting students to summarise and 'reteach' previous course content for you and others to access?


Activities like this will not only help consolidate your learners' own understanding, but provide you with a bank of resources to share with future students!

Handy Tip #2: Don't assume digital capability!

Many of us are very familiar with the digital tools we use in our usual teaching practice. But these are not usual circumstances!


Take a moment to consider investing in some personal CPD to get your self - and your students - up-to-speed with the expectations and demands of online learning.

The Open University's free Open Learn short courses are a great resource for both staff and students and the end of study certification and badge adds an even greater sense of achievement!
